I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned. Instead it continued to fall into that starry expanse of which I had only a feeting glimpse.

Following the events of the Book of Atrus, the Myst series follows the family of Atrus. Starting with Myst, players are introduced to the island he settled upon with his wife Catherine, and following clues you discover the destruction wrought by his greedy sons Sirrus and Achenar.

Having helped Atrus, he then has another task for you, tackling his father Gehn and rescuing Catherine from the Fifth Age, or Riven as it is known. Making your way through the beautiful yet flawed Age of Riven, you see the marks left upon the Age by Gehn before confronting the man himself.

Myst 3 Exile is set almost a decade after Riven, and follows on from the events in the Book of D’ni. Atrus and Catherine now live in Tomahna, with their new daughter Yeesha. But the sins of the sons past come back to haunt Atrus, as Saavedro shows up looking for revenge, stealing the Releeshahn Book, now home to the D’ni people.

A decade later, the story returns to Atrus and his family in Myst 4 Revelation. Upon visiting Atrus the discovery is made that the sons are alive still yet imprisoned in two Ages. But for how long?
When Yeesha goes missing, the task is to find her, hunt the freed sons down and save an Age’s population from destruction.

Hundreds of years later, the final chapter in Atrus’ saga is completed with Myst 5 End of Ages.
