Real Myst

Easter Eggs

This section contains spoilers which could ruin the game for you if you have not played it before, or have not yet reached the end.

This may contain spoilers from the other Myst games.

An Easter Egg is a hidden feature that creators put in their products for people to find. It can range from images to sounds or movie clips which are hidden to some degree. Other Easter Eggs are easy to find and can be seen during the course of a game, others are harder to locate and may require specific requirements to find them out.

Rime Gas

This is both an egg in itself and a precursor to activating another egg. To get this egg to work you will need acess to Rime. After unfreezing the entrance room, go back outside and turn off the gas switch, this will turn the furnace off. Turn the gas back on and go back into the room, make sure the door leading outside is closed. After a while of waiting your will find the egg activates.

Kong

Go into the planetarium and sit in the chair. On the star chart viewer, set the month to March and the year to 1978, the time and day can be anything. Now change the month to November, this will activate the egg. To interact with the egg, move the time slider around.

Easter Island

For this egg to work you first need to be “gassed” (see the Rime Gas egg). In the Crystal Viewer room, set all five crystals to the first shape, and the colour to red, the egg should be activated.

Face

Put the short crystal in the first and fifth positions, the Snoqualmie falls crystal in the center, and the Washington monument crystal in the second and fourth positions. Make them all red, and you get the Face Egg. You can also start with all crystals magenta. And you can change the colors (carefully!) to cycle through the Cyanegg.avi file. Also, the egg will disappear if you make too many mistakes, such as triggering the egg and then changing a crystal other than the first.

Huevo/Vika

This easter egg hasnt actually been "finished" the end results came about from hacking the game files.

"Yes, I’m counting this one, even though I cheated to get it. The history behind these eggs are well-known, so I won’t repeat them here. I gave Spyder a chance, but finally decided to take matters into my own hands." - Zardoz

The end result was some 30 odd images from Uru/Mudpie and a test age nicknamed "Vika" by the fans.

Unfinished Eggs - m3dplayer

In the savegame and other files in realMyst, there are several references to what appears to be a 3d player model. At first, we thought the YourInMySightsNow egg might trigger the 3d player. That hasn’t proven to be true (so far), so it’s been put in the category of a possible egg.

Unfinished Eggs - Ides/Break-in

The “Ides of March” and “a break-in at a famous hotel” clues from 9 March would seem to be connected to the “Kong” egg, at least according to the theory that the clues line up across the different dates. Yet no one has conclusively shown why they are needed, as that egg can be solved with only the other two date clues from the following week, “Sam Clemens and Sir Winston” and “Radio 4 announces a new hyperspace bypass.” This has produced speculation that there is another egg hidden inside the planetarium monitor, although countless attempts to find it have proven fruitless. For that reason, it is also listed this as a possible dead end.
