The First DRC Restoration Attempt

Bahro, The

Also known as The Least, the Bahro are a race that has spent almost ten thousand years in servitude to the D’ni people. Yeesha and Calam learned of the Bahro and their plight during their time spent learning in D’ni. Yeesha created the Journey to teach newcomers to D’ni about the mistakes D’ni made and of the Bahro’s enslavement, and at the Journey’s end the explorer can free one of the Bahro. The Bahro now are free and gathering together, and explorers can hear them in the distance while in the D’ni cavern and neighbourhoods.

The Bahro spoken of here are not the same as the Bahro mentioned in the Book of D’ni. In the Book of D’ni, the inhabitants of Terahnee used the word “bahro” as a slur toward a humanoid group of slaves, more commonly referred to as “relyimah” in the Book of D’ni.

DRC, The

The D’ni Restoration Council (DRC) is a non-profit organization charged with the restoration of D’ni and its Ages. The DRC was established by Elias Zandi and Dr. Richard Watson in 1997. In 2004 after the apparent death of Phil Henderson and the lack of funding for the restoration, Dr. Watson left D’ni and the DRC. The DRC disbanded shortly after and went their separate ways until at the start of 2006, when the DRC came together as talks about new funding were coming together. By December 2006, the DRC had gained funding and returned to take on the work they left behind in 2004. The DRC is currently ran by Dr. Marie Sutherland, Dr. Ikuro Kodama, Victor Laxman and Michael Engberg.

DRF, The

The D’ni Restoration Foundation was set up by Elias Zandi after several visits to the cavern. The DRF was to later become the DRC. After Elias’ death the DRF, DRC and Elias’ estate was left in the care of Dr. Watson.

Great Tree, The

The Great Tree is a group of explorers who gathered together with Douglas Sharper back in 2003 under the guidance of Brian Fioca. The Great Tree group along with Sharper was displeased with how the DRC was going about the restoration and sought to change things. The group gathered a large following and held a sit in protest and a break in of the Kahlo Tavern in response to the closure of area’s of D’ni that they felt should be open. The Great Tree members could be identified by their green fleece jackets with a large tree symbol emblazoned on the back. After the DRC disbanded, Sharper vanished in the Cavern; since then the Great Tree group has continued on with a more moderate philosophy of a new D’ni.

Guild of Greeters

The Guild of Greeters is the first official Guild of the New D’ni. Set up in 2003 by a group of explorers, the Guild of Greeters exist to introduce new explorers into D’ni and help with questions and problems. They can be identified by their shirts featuring their logo, and can be found in the Guild of Greeters Neighbourhood. If you have a questions, try visiting their hood.

Henderson, Phil

Phil Henderson was a member of Marie Sutherland’s team who was working on Eder Kemo. After spending a lot of time on the Age, Phil worked out how to open the “Journey Door” located there. In 2002 he announced that he had found a way and disappeared through the door.

A year later, an explorer named Zardoz was able to contact Phil, and eventually he returned to D’ni, visiting the Neighbourhoods to share knowledge with explorers who would listen. He later befriended Douglas Sharper, taking him on Yeesha’s Journey. In a controversial act, the DRC linked Phil away by force, and while we was confirmed to have not been harmed, groups like the Great Tree pointed to it as a sign of the flaws of the DRC.

Some time later, Phil ventured up near the Guild Hall, an unopened area of the Ae’gura, and was apparently killed when a section of wall collapsed. However, many explorers and the Great Tree continue to hold out hope that he was not killed, due to the lack of a body ever being found.

Kadish

Kadish was an expelled Guild Master of the Guild of Writers. A poor Writer, his Age of Kadish Tolesa was overrun by massive trees. At the Fall of D’ni, Kadish fled D’ni for his Age in an attempt to save the riches locked in his vault, leaving his wife behind. The remains of his body still lie in the vault, but a Book linking to an “alternate version” of Kadish Tolesa may indicate that Yeesha had somehow saved Kadish’s life.

Loftin, John “Fighting Branch”

John “Fighting Branch” Loftin was the person who rediscovered D’ni. He used to find artefacts which he would later give to his friend Elias Zandi. In this way Elias and, later, Dr. Watson, became aware of D’ni.

During a trip to D’ni, an accident resulted in the death of John Loftin.

Sharper, Douglas

Douglas Sharper was not a member of the DRC; however, he was invited to assist with restoration of the Age of Teledahn. He took a dislike to the DRC’s way of running the restoration, and when the Cavern was opened, Sharper formed a friendship with like-minded explorer Brian Fioca, creating the Great Tree. Sharper and the Great Tree held a series of protests against the DRC in 2003.

When the DRC pulled out of D’ni at the start of 2004, Douglas stayed in the Cavern and has not been seen since.

ResEngs

ResEngs (Restoration Engineers) are members of the DRC who work on the various Ages and Areas of D’ni. Lately they have been giving orientations in A Beginner’s Bevin and serving as in-cavern assistance for explorers. The word “ResEng” in front of their user names identifies them as such.

Yeesha

Yeesha is the daughter of Atrus and Catherine. She left her parents for D’ni when sixteen, and during her time in the Cavern she learned of the plight of the Bahro and created the Journey. A mysterious character, Yeesha is the Grower, a messianic figure prophesied of by the Watcher.

Watcher, The

The Watcher was an ancient D’ni prophet. According to legend, he was born while his mother was Linking. Later in life, he became blind and wrote five books of prophecies, known as the Words of the Watcher.

Zandi, Elias

Father of Jeff Zandi, Elias rediscovered D’ni along with John Loftin. He formed the DRF and later the DRC, buying up thousands of acres of land that surrounded the tunnels to D’ni. He had a disagreement with his son Jeff about the future of D’ni and the contrast between a physical and spiritual restoration — a philosophical concept still driving the goals of the Great Tree.

Some time later Elias died of a heart attack, leaving his estate and the DRC to Dr. Watson and the land around the Cleft to his son Jeff.

Zandi, Jeff

Jeff Zandi was the son of Elias and friend of Dr. Watson. After Elias’ death the land surrounding The Cleft was given to Jeff. In 2002, Jeff set up a series of puzzles to teach visitors about D’ni and how to get there. It was Zandi who started allowing masses of people to enter the cavern.
